IbnSina Afghanistan –Background
Founded in November 1996, IbnSina Afghanistan is one of the largest non-governmental, non-political and non-profit Afghan NGOs in the country today. In the thirteen plus years of its life IbnSina Afghanistan has implemented health and integrated development projects in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These included construction, water and sanitation, income-generation skills training, education and professional training. In Afghanistan, its health care and training and capacity building activities have brought the entire country under its cover.

Training and human resource capacity building have always been a priority area of IbnSina interventions, and in 2004, IbnSina Afghanistan launched the first ever Institute of Public Health (IPH) in Afghanistan, which later broadened its scope and became the Institute of Public Health and Management Sciences (IPHMS)

Health Care Activities in Afghanistan....
For nearly 13 years now, IbnSina has been a significant health care provider in Afghanistan, and has successfully served deprived communities in some of the most difficult and dangerous regions in Afghanistan, including the notorious Helmand and Zabul provinces, as well as in Kandahar, Bamyan and Pakitiya. By maintaining a strictly a-political stance, and by adopting a principled practical approach, IbnSina Afghanistan has gained wide acceptance among many highly conservative communities in the country.

Health Care Activities in Pakistan....
In Pakistan, IbnSina continued to implement its emergency health relief project in the earthquake-affected northern areas of Pakistan. IbnSina started its interventions in Batagram and Mansehra districts of the North West Frontier Province in October 2005, within days of the violent earthquake that devastated parts of north western Pakistan.

COORDINATION AND COOPERATION....
IbnSina Afghanistan coordinated its programs closely, with related government ministries and provincial offices, as well as with other governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the area.

IbnSina rehabilitated 18 BHCs, 17 CHCs and 6 District Hospitals
In addition to its health care interventions, IbnSina has a full-fledged Engineering department and, in the past years, has rehabilitated and constructed a number of clinics and hospitals, repaired roads, constructed surface and pit latrines and dug wells, and has rehabilitated the drainage systems in different parts of the country.
