Brief Report about Monitoring and Evaluation Training Course Conducted by
IbnSina Afghanistan in Tajikistan

Ibnsina Afghanistan was formally registered with the government of Tajikistan, as an international NGO in December 2007.
Following the first successful short training course in pharmacy Management, IbnSina Afghanistan conducted its second training course in Dushanbe Tajikistan in June 2008. The five-day training course on Monitoring and Evaluation, from June 3-7, 2008, had the following training objectives:

  • To provide managers with necessary skills and knowledge, enabling them to implement a results-based monitoring and evaluation system with a clear and structured methodology, and to design a monitoring and management information system for their organizations in line with organizational requirements, as well as to provide a basic understanding of evaluation.
  • To prepare participants to plan, design, and implement a results-based monitoring and evaluation system within their organization.

Eighteen (18) participants from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kirghizstan, including senior staff from international organizations such as AKDN Tajikistan Program, News International, WHH, and Mercy Corps, attended the training course. The course was facilitated by a qualified female Afghan trainer from the IbnSina Institute of Public Health and Management Sciences.  In order to ensure the quality of training on time feedback was received from participants, through individual training session evaluations by trainees, during the course.
The participants were very satisfied with the course content and training methodology, and a majority of participants requested IbnSina to conduct short training courses on other subjects related to Public Health and Management.

To cite an instance, the Regional Manager of the AKHS Tajikistan Program, Miss. Guldarbagh, on behalf of the participants said; ‘This training was very useful and effective compared to another Monitoring and Evaluation training some of us recently attended in the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. Different topics were explained clearly by the trainer, and were easy to understand, because she explained in a simple and interesting manner, using live examples.’
Mr. Marat Bigaliev from Kazakhstan said; ‘… all aspects of the training were presented in a logical way. All given information was useful and practical, and I will apply the information in my professional as well as personal life. The training helped me to systematize all my previous practical experiences in the field of monitoring and evaluation. …Now I am better prepared and equipped to conduct monitoring and evaluation activities in my organization….’
The closing ceremony of the Monitoring and Evaluation training course was held on June 7, 2008.  The Chief Guest was the Ambassador of Afghanistan in Tajikistan, Mr. Khairkhwah.  Other important guests included the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy, Mr. Tom Hushek, Dr. Husnia, Representative of the AKHS, and Emmanuel WINTZ Project Coordinator PSF.
At the end, certificates were awarded to the participants by the IbnSina President/CEO, Dr. Anwarulhaq Jabarkhail, the Ambassador of Afghanistan in Tajikistan, the Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy and other guests.
