IbnSina Afghanistan believes in promoting equal opportunities for education and training for rural and urban youth and to this aim, is active in a variety of formal and non-formal education activities. IbnSina supports four Community Education Resource Centers, two in Laghman and two in Kunar, in eastern Afghanistan. The four Education Resource Centers have a current total enrollment of 1468 students, 161 of them being female. In the Community Resource Center in Mehterlam Laghman, 21 students (seven female) are from the provincial orphanage, and receive free tuition. These centers offer courses for educated rural youth in subjects such as English, Computers, Math, Arabic, and Quran reading. They also offer literacy classes for non-literate young people. These courses provide the vital edge needed by rural educated youth, to enable them to compete for higher education opportunities or jobs.
