Afghan Chirldren have heart surgery

Two Afghan Children with Congenital Heart Defects Treated at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore India .

Owing to the generosity and humanitarian services of the Narayana Hrudayalaya Cardiac Institute in Bangalore India , and the interventions of IbnSina Afghanistan , two young Afghan boys received a second lease of life.

The Telemedicine program of IbnSina Afghanistan in Kabul identified two Afghan children suffering from congenital heart defects from indigent families, whose lives would most likely have been cut short if their condition had not been treated. In July 2007, IbnSina assisted them to travel to the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute in Bangalore India , for surgery, provided completely free of charge by the Institute.

Ahmad Zaki, aged one year, was operated on, for Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) on July 23, and was discharged from the hospital on August 02, 2007, fully recovered.

Five-year-old Nasratullah was suffering from a rare and complex condition, with multiple congenital cardiac problems (ASD, VSD, Situs Inversus, Transposition of Great Arteries, and Pulmonary Artery Stenosis), which is very difficult to treat. After detailed deliberations, the surgeons at the Narayana Institute agreed to undertake this surgical operation as well, and the operation was successfully accomplished on August 06, 2007.

Both Nasratullah and Ahmad Zaki have returned home to their grateful families, who thanked the Narayana Hrudayalaya team for their hospitality and life-saving services, and to IbnSina, for linking these children to the people who could save their lives.
